How Do You Destiny?  unnamed (2)

“Our vision is a basic lifestyle website and exploration of town hybrid. A place where you feel encouraged to share your favorite things and hear about some of our favorite things. There will be no reviews just highlights. We want to share and discuss our rich music and arts culture, we want to eat our weight in local restaurant food, We want to meet people and hear from them what they think makes our town unique and beautiful, we want to make food and drink recipes and encourage gathering and togetherness. We want to find the best places to shop, and most importantly I think our favorite part of Denton culture is we want to live our best lives in community with each other, and what better way to do that than to give! We will talk with different organizations about community needs and how to volunteer and donate, how to get involved!”

What’s up Denton? Jeff and Stephanie Simeral here to tell you all about us learning about you! It was about three years ago that Jeff a Colorado native started yearning for change and dreaming of a different kind of life. Maybe it was because we were streaming Friday Night Lights or maybe it was because we wanted certain values to raise our family with, Maybe it was providence inspired in his heart, but whatever it was, he somehow manifested a gigantic life change for our family, and here we are.

It was a little over two years ago that Jeff came home from work saying he was offered a position in Texas, and that he accepted it. We had three weeks to move and only two days visiting Dallas to find a home. Uh….. I don’t know about y’all but I was a little panicked. Excited, proud of my husband’s never before seen ability to “try something new”, but panicked. The position was in Dallas and we had to find a place in the metroplex to call home.

Long story short, We drove from Ft Worth to  Richardson, from there to Arlington, Through Keller and nearly stopped in Carrolton, We were thoroughly confused by Flower Mound, and laughed at when we attempted Grapevine, But we kept driving North. It was too far, there was no explanation as to why we should keep going, but we felt a pull in this direction. When We were nearly ready to give up, I begged Jeff to let us check out Denton, and it was the next reasonable stop for lunch, so he obliged.

I yelped restaurants and found LSA Burger, and as we drove for the first time to Denton Square I prayed. I prayed for God to find us a home and tell us where it is because we had never been to Texas before and he knew what we needed. Y’all, we pulled into the parking lot right in front of Jupiter Coffee and my phone dinged, it was a notification from “Trulia”. A home that meets our criteria was available nearby.

We made an appointment to see it and then enjoyed lunch and beers on a rooftop patio! On October 29th! A sentiment unheard of in Colorado, where it had already begun snowing that season. The excitement felt that day of the complete unknown was incredible. We immediately loved all the giant oak trees, and wooded areas, and the sort of wet sage smell of the Texas fall time air. Everything in town seemed kind of calm and unnamed (13)pleasant, and we just seemed to feel in our hearts that we were about to go see our new home.

Maps was very generous to take us the back way, so we got to drive past land and farms and train tracks, it was beautiful. We pulled up in front of the house that would soon be ours just as another car was pulling up. we should add that Jeff mentioned the other folks walking in with us were athletes. They proceeded to see the house, we just immediately asked for an application. We knew we were home.

It was us that were blessed to be awarded the house and it wasn’t until a few weeks later one of our neighbors told us that the gentlemen looking at the house at the same time as us Were NFL players (I’m assuming newly) and they offered an entire two years of rent up front. I asked my landlords about it after that and they said that they prayed about it first and felt they should choose us.

Sometimes we wonder and talk about why we were brought here. I think it’s because of love, we needed to receive it and we feel we can give it out here. The culture here in Denton is more suited to appreciate kindness and goodness in all walks of life then perhaps other places. Maybe there are many small towns in America that feel this way, but for us, this is true to Denton, and this is one of the things that has inspired us to develop a platform to talk about this culture and highlight all the beauty we see in our town. Perhaps that is part of the purpose of our being brought here, and we would like to invite you to share Your Denton with us, while we explore it and fall in love with it more and more!
